A NEW scheme has been launched to help people in the county find honest and trustworthy traders in Lancashire.

The Safe Trader Scheme project is the brainchild of the county’s Trading Standards organisation.

It will list registered firms which have been verified and have given a commitment to treat customers fairly and honestly.

A total of 175 traders have been approved so far and 200 more are on a waiting list to be added.

County Coun Albert Atkinson, deputy leader of Lancashire County Council, said: “Lancashire receives around 2,000 complaints about property repairs and home improvements every year.

“Some older and vulnerable people, in particular, may be specifically targeted by dishonest cold callers offering home improvement work.

“Lancashire’s Safe Trader Scheme will enable customers to make an informed decision over which trader they choose to use.

“Residents can rest assured that Trading Standards officers will monitor the scheme and take action against any traders who fail to uphold the highest standards.”
