BLACKBURN Rovers and Burnley ex-pat fans will be cheering their team on in the derby match on Sunday from all corners of the globe.

There will be supporters staying up late - or waking up early - to tune into the crunch match in countries as far away as Australia, America and Bahrain.

The Lancashire Telegraph contacted some of these exiled supporters to find out how they'll be following the Ewood action from more exotic climes.

Clarets fans

Joel Duffy will be watching from his home in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Mr Duffy, whose mother grew up in Brierfield, is a regular at Turf Moor and flew to England specifically for the play-off final last year.

He said: “Besides my father and brother, there are two other Burnley supporters on the island. I’ll probably watch the game at my parents’ house with my mom and dad and the atmosphere will likely be pretty tense. I predict Burnley will get their first away points of the campaign winning 2-0… Up the Clarets!”

Ian Cornish, 62, runs an antiques centre in Melbourne, Australia, and will watch the game at home live on the TV at midnight.

He said: “Clarets supporters are fairly rare in this part of the world. BRFC supporters are similarly rare.

“I am hoping for a Clarets win of course and feel that they are about due for an away win but am not overly confident that their winning margin will be more than one goal.”

Tony Jones, who will be watching at home in Perth, Australia, said: “I'll be watching it with my family and making the TV room a bit of a clarets shrine I’m feeling very confident about the game.”

Rovers fans

Stewart Allen, who lives in Bavaria, will be tuning in to German Sky to ensure he doesn’t miss the game.

He said: “The great Bavarian beer is quietly chilling so that we can enjoy our drinks as we watch the Rovers win.

"Food will be prepared by my wife Carole, who's also a Rovers fan.

“When we were courting (way back in the mid-60s) we went to every home game and used to stand on the Riverside. Come on Rovers!”

Matt Carlin, who lives in Wellington New Zealand, said: “I'll be watching the game on Sky in my lounge at 1am with 12 Kiwi mates.

"I think the form book would say a draw, but will go with Rovers 4-0.”

Paul Howarth, a former QEGS pupil, on the edge of the Rift Valley, Kenya, said: “We will leave the 30C sunshine and drought outside for a couple of hours, lock the door, turn our mobiles off and be on the settee at 3pm (our time) on Sunday.”

Iliyan Stefanov, a Blackburn fan from Sofia, Bulgaria, said: “I expect the atmosphere to be electric and hope this is enough for Rovers to smash them!”

In New York, chef Mick Baldwin, 39, who comes from Rishton, will be opening the Black Horse Pub at 6am.

He said: “It'll be a very early start for us over here, but we are expecting a large turnout.”
