A MINI moto has been seized from two teenagers after an undercover police operation in Great Harwood.

Officers seized the bike from the 17-year-old and 15-year-old boys after they were found riding it on Alan Ramsbottom Way.

Both had travelled from Blackburn along the canal path believing there was a mini moto track in a nearby wooded area, according to police.

The 17-year-old was given a fixed penalty notice and the 15-year-old was reported for a summons for alleged driving offences.

The mini moto has been seized and will be crushed.

This comes as part of an ongoing crackdown on mini moto nuisance after concerns were raised by residents.

Community Beat Manager PC Andy Sarchet said: "Anti-social use of mini motos has been impacting heavily on the quality of life for many residents in Great Harwood and we will not tolerate this type of behaviour.

"Not only do they cause a nuisance to members of the community, but they can also be extremely dangerous to other road users and pedestrians."

The police have powers under Section 59 of The Police Reform Act 2002 to warn offenders and in certain circumstances seize the vehicles involved. In addition to being issued with a warning, offenders can also be reported for offences, in particular those relating to insurance and driving licences.

PC Sarchet added: "Many people don't realise that anyone who rides a mini-moto on a public road requires both insurance and an appropriate driving licence. Anyone who is thinking of buying a mini-moto as a present should consider the implications for both the rider and the community."

He urged anyone with information about the use of mini motos to call police on 0845 1 25 35 45.
