A GROUNDBREAKING campaign to ‘Make Blackburn Safer’ has received backing from the Blackburn Rovers’ Community Trust.

The voluntary group set up by local DJ Kirk Bullen continues to spread its message across the town and is set to work with the trust to teach youngsters about the consequences of violence.

Sessions will be targeted at those aged 11-18 and include issues such as knife crime and under-age drinking.

Jamie Hopwood, project officer for the community trust said: “We’re backing the ‘Make Blackburn Safer’ campaign and have helped raise its profile by inviting Kirk and his team into the club.

"We are now looking at opportunities for them to come and talk to the people we engage with through our projects.”

The trust – a registered charity – has enjoyed its own success in tackling ani-social behaviour on weekend evenings by putting on local sporting projects, including the popular ‘Kickz’.

Mr Hopwood added: “I’m sure it will be well received, as other workshops have done in the past.

"It is all about breaking barriers down with the kids.”
