A 47-year-old bus passenger was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy when the vehicle stopped in Langho.

Officers were waiting at the bus stop after a 14-year-old boy rang police on his mobile and alleged he had been attacked at Whalley Bus Station.

The man, of Accrington, was quizzed then released on police bail pending further inquiries following the alleged incident at 6pm on Saturday.

The boy told police that he was waiting for a bus in the station off King Street when he noticed a man standing next to him.

He said man engaged him in conversation about the timetable before touching him in a sexual manner.

Police would like to speak to a white man of large build who may have witnessed the incident.

Detective constable Will Bigger of Clitheroe police said: “We need to trace this man because he seems to have been the only other person at the station at the time of the incident.

“He also caught the 225 bus and we are appealing for him to come forward.”

After reporting the incident the boy was taken home and was questioned by police.

Det Con Bigger added: “The boy has been left very shaken and, although we have made an arrest, it is still important that people with information come forward to assist our investigation.

“We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
