Katie Ingram has won the Snowdon International fell race for the second year in a row, and just like last year has headed an England 1-2-3.

The Horwich RMI Harrier, from Astley Village, is much in demand as the previous weekend she was in Austria helping the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team to the bronze medal in the European Mountain Running Championships. The forecast was for heavy rain, but the weather stayed dry and there were smiles all round as the 23-year-old won this tough International Mountain race, run to the top of Snowdon and back down again, a total of 10 miles and 3.300ft of climbing.

Her margin of victory this year was amazing as she finished over seven minutes faster than second-placed runner Philippa Jackson – also running for England.

In fact, Katie took over five minutes off her PB from last year and placed 20th overall in the race - with an entry of 500.

Her time to the top was 48.31, with a descent time of 27.02 for a 1.15.32 total, getting ever closer to the current record set in 95 when Carol Greenwood ran 1.12 48. Emma Clayton finished third lady in 1.25.38, giving England a clean sweep.

Candice Taylor was a team mate of Ingram’s when the GB team won the European Championships 12 months ago, and the Clayton-le-Moors Harrier continues to impress, recently winning the Waughs Well Race, the first event in the Rossendale Harriers’ Midweek Series.

Taylor prevented a clean sweep by Dale as she finished well clear of Junior International Emma Flanagan after Ashley Holt had won the men’s contest. Rossendale also took both team prizes.
