THIEVES will soon be in danger of getting into slippery situations in a campaign to reduce crime in Rishton.
Special anti-climb paint will be given to residents whose homes have recently been targeted by vandals, or thieves.
Many of these thefts involved criminals scaling buildings to steal lead from rooftops.
Paint will be handed out to residents and brushed onto areas of a property to make climbing walls difficult.
Police say it is a highly-effective preventative measure and can also reassure people who have already been victims of this type of crime.
Community beat manager PC Paul Haworth said: “As part of the countywide burglary campaign, Operation Julius, we will be visiting victims of burglary and offering the paint to deter thieves and to reassure residents.”
Coun Brian Roberts, chairman of Hyndburn Community Safety Partnership, said: “The anti-climb paint is a great innovation for tackling burglary.
"It deters thieves and reassures residents.
“It forms part of our high-profile series of Neat Streets campaigns which have already proved really successful in other parts of the borough.”
