A CD created and compiled by students and staff at Blackburn College has been put on sale at a top record store.

The ten track compilation CD called ‘Talk of the Town’ which is a celebration of local music is being sold at HMV in Blackburn.

It was created by the College’s Creative Arts department through their record label, On Song Records.

The CD features nine upcoming artists and includes a mixture of indie rock, punk and noise experimentalism, all of which are students on courses at the college.

All aspects of the CD were produced in the town, including the art work on the sleeve is a photograph by Holly Nicholson who has just completed a BTEC National Diploma in Photography at the college.

While the design was produced by Matt Allton and Robin Beech both from the Foundation Degree in Digital Media Design.

And the CD was pressed at Blackburn’s EDC CD manufacturer which is set to close its doors at the end of the year.

Lecturer Jamie Holman said: “There are a few of us on the teaching and support staff who have worked in the music industry at one level or another.

“Our experiences are what drive our courses. We aim to provide real-life learning opportunities for our students and that means understanding all elements of the business.”

College Principal Ian Clinton said the cd was a great idea to help students learn more about the music industry.

He said: “Through On Song and the work of the Creative Arts department, students are gaining relevant qualifications and genuine work experience – it’s an impressive package.”
