Local CND Members from Colne and East Lancashire attended a peaceful protest at Menwith Hill, the RAF/USAF Monitoring and Communications Spy Base to campaign against the introduction of the US Missile Defence System (Star Wars) on the 4th of July.

The Base has developed global tracking and guidance equipment inside the ‘large golf ball structures (pictured), which are designed to trigger the use of this new offensive nuclear weapons system in space.

There seems to be no accountability by the USA to the British Parliament for occupying and totally controlling this supposedly RAF Establishment.

Such a dangerous system would lead to the proliferation of the nuclear arms race at a time when the Leaders of USA and Russia are seeking to reduce them.

The Event included music, poetry, speeches and messages of support as well as a walk around the Base to highlight why it is there. One of the Key Speakers was Clare Short, the Independent MP from Birmingham.

CND believes that Facilities for Star Wars in the UK would be a threat to our national security – we would become a prime target in a nuclear war.
