ONE hundred supporters of a church mission in Ghana from rural Burnley have raised £500.
Congregation members from Mount Zion Independent Methodist Church in Cliviger arranged a charity dinner after being inspired by a trainee minister from the African country.
Bright Amankwa visited Cliviger while studying at a bible college in Lancashire and secured the support of Rebekah Fielding and her mother Elayne for a project to build a church and school in the Ghanian countryside.
Dozens attended a fundraising get-together at Ridoy restaurant in Red Lees Road, Cliviger, to hear more about the initiative.
Mr Amankwa said: “This will help us build foundations and dig a well to provide clean water on the site that we have already bought.
“We are opening a school in an area where many children are without education because of the costs.”
