A NEW chairman of Lancashire Fire Authority has been appointed.

County Coun David O’Toole has served on the authority for nine years. The West Lancashire Tory replaces former chief Bob Rossendale, who lost his seat in Rossendale last month when Labour suffered a heavy defeat at the ballot box.

Coun O’Toole said: “Although local government elections brought about changes in the individual and political mix of the authority, those of us who have served before are delighted to welcome new members who bring valuable qualities and skills to enable us to consolidate and build on what we have already achieved.

“I am honoured and immensely pleased to accept the role of chairman of the fire authority in supporting the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service in its vital work.”

Another Conservative, county councillor for Wyre John Shedwick, will be vice-chairman. Members of Lancashire Fire Authority are the public’s representatives and scrutinise the work of the fire service. On Monday the authority met for the first time since the elections, and formally installed the new members.
