ORGANISERS of the three-day Clitheroe Festival will be taking the town back in time this year with a 1940s theme.

The third annual weekend festival will run from May 15 to May 17, with a packed calendar of events to keep the crowds entertained.

The weekend kicks off with the fourth annual beer festival at the St Mary’s Centre, from noon on Friday.

The 1940s theme will be on show throughout the weekend, with military displays from World War II vehicles, wartime re-enactments, famous 40s lookalikes and bus trips on classic buses.

Other events going on over the weekend include a family fairground at Clitheroe castle, featuring rides, stalls and music from the bandstand.

Pubs across the town will also be joining in the festivities, with live performances from local acts taking place across the town.

Richard Jackson, of Clitheroe the Future, the organisation overseeing the festival, said the event would be bigger and better than ever.

He said: “We are sure this event can go from strength to strength and continue to build on its success.

“Many events will be taking place over the weekend, starting with the beer festival with more than 60 local ales, to events at the Grand and trips out.

“A warm welcome awaits all visitors to Clitheroe the festival weekend.”

During the festival, old-fashion buses and a steam bus will be taking visitors on trips to Blackridge Farm, Bashall Barn and the Platform Gallery, while Northern Rail will be putting on extra trains to the town.
