Churches in Lancashire are being urged to help parishes with new recession guidelines.
The Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Rev Bishop Nicholas Reade, has commended the 10 guidelines created by the Stewardship, the national Christian financial services charity.
It advises churches to create hardship funds, stock emergency supplies such as food and try to help people even more so than before.
Rt Rev Bishop Nicholas Reade said: “These are extremely helpful guidelines for parishes to develop, as help for themselves and their communities in this time of global financial crisis.
“They are realistic, local and practical. There is a strong spiritual foundation here for each parish to develop a response in their own way.”
Mary Smith, Blackburn Diocesan Resource Officer, said: “The economic storm will require churches to respond pastorally and practically to the impact of unemployment, home repossessions, personal debt and the money anxiety."
