COUNCILLORS are set to give the green light for a new taxi office in Whalley, despite the concerns from residents.

A planning application to convert a ground floor office at Abbey Works, Back King Street, into a taxi booking office is recommended for approval at tonight’s planning and development committee.

But councillors are likely to impose a strict condition on the approval that will prevent the public converging on the office to book a taxi.

The parish council raised concerns over the site due to Back King Street being unlit with no footpath, making it inappropriate for pedes-trian access.

They also said the site would have limited park-ing space and would add to traffic congestion in the centre of the village.

If the taxi office is given the go ahead, it will be allowed to open from 8am to midnight Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 11pm Sunday’s and Bank Holidays.
