A HEALTH group trying to cut the number of suicides is set to reach out to depressed men aged 15 to 35 — at a football match.

Volunteers from the Campaign Against Living Miserably charity, known as CALM, will spend the day raising awareness of the problems facing men at Accrington Stanley’s Fraser Eagle Stadium on Saturday.

Taking over the ground for the home game against Lincoln City, to highlight the services they provide, volunteers will be on hand to give out promotional material.

The project is part of East Lancs Primary Care Trust’s work towards meeting the national target of reducing suicides by 20 per cent by 2010.

East Lancashire CALM co-ordinator Jamie Scahill said: “This is an excellent opportunity for supporters to find out more about CALM and we are grateful for the support of Accrington Stanley.

“It’s great to see a partnership like this grow as we both work heavily in the community for the benefit of the residents.”

East Lancs CALM has been active since early 2008 and is funded by the Big Lottery via East Lancs PCT.

Accrington Stanley Chief Executive Rob Heys said: “We are delighted to support CALM as they have been involved with some great projects in the community.”
