A TOTAL of 64 cars have now been reported as scratched by vandals who ran amok in Great Harwood.

The Lancashire Telegraph reported on Tuesday that 45 cars had been damaged, but more car owners have since come forward.

Cars were damaged in Cliffe Lane, Westcliffe, Northcliffe, Edge End Lane, Edge End Road, James Street, Highfield Road and Shakespeare Avenue.

They were all either scratched or dented and it is thought those responsible had been drinking.

A £65,000 BMW X5 in Westcliffe was one of the vehicles attacked this morning.

The owner, who did not want to be named, said he was ‘“gutted”.

He said: “My little boy found it this morning and he burst into tears.

"It’s been scratched on every panel, every light, every alloy.

“When I took it to be assessed, they told me there was £8,400 of damage.

“It’s mindless and pathetic.

“People seem to think that insurance covers everything, but I still have to pay out £750 excess to get this sorted.”

A woman whose black Peugeot was badly scratched in Westcliffe, said: “My husband heard scratching at about 1.30am but when he got up to look there was nothing to be seen.

"When I got up for work, I found it. I can’t understand why anyone would do it.”

One man from Cliffe Lane whose company Audi A4 was attacked, said: “It seems like a lot of premium cars have been targetted.”

Police are carrying out house-to-house inquiries, reviewing CCTV footage and following several leads, but need more people to come forward.

Inspector Gary Crowe said: “These people have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and I would like to re-assure the community we are doing everything we can to bring these offenders to justice.”
