THE new High Sheriff of Lancashire will be officially sworn-in next week.
Caroline Susan Reynolds will continue an office stretching back to at least the middle of the 10th Century.
The appointment of High Sheriff is made by the Queen, in her right as Duke of Lancaster.
Mrs Reynolds, of Leighton Hall, Carnforth, said: βIt is an enormous honour to have been invited to be High Sheriff.β
Mrs Reynolds has lived and worked in Lancashire for nearly 40 years Mrs Reynolds, 61, is involved with a number of voluntary organisations in the county.
