A MERGER of Lancashire’s police force and its Cumbrian counterpart will not happen “in our lifetime,” according to the chief executive of the National Policing Improvement Agency.
Speaking at a workforce modernisation conference, Peter Neyroud said the notion of police forces across the country merging was now redundant.
The idea was proposed by the government in 2005 but abandoned a year later amid complaints of costs and lack of local control.
