A CRACKDOWN on discarded cigarette butts is to take place in Burnley town centre.
The council is stepping up its efforts in the Keep Burnley Clean campaign, aimed at attracting more visitors, shoppers and businesses into the town.
Council staff will be giving out free portable ashtrays in the town centre this week.
Twelve additional specially-designed cigarette bins will also be installed in the next few months, as well as ashtrays going into existing bins in the town.
Council officers will also be issuing fines to people who are seen dropping litter of any sort.
