A SERIES of waterway clean-ups is being planned this spring along the canal in Burnley.
Borough council officers and British Waterways staff have already begun to spruce up the canal in the Daneshouse and Stoneyholme area.
Litter will be tackled, fly-tipping hotspots identified, and dog fouling cracked down on.
The canal has been divided into sections, between Barden and Rosegrove.
Coun Charlie Briggs, community safety executive member, who joined in the clean-up, said: “The canal is part of Burnley’s industrial heritage and should be respected. It’s a major asset for the borough and should not be used as a dumping ground, or a dog toilet.”
Further clean-ups are planned tomorrow and on Saturday in Barden and Gannow.
