A GYM owner says that his business has been put under threat after double yellow lines were painted outside the premises.

Eugene Laviscount said that gym members were being prevented from parking outside health club Body and Fitness, in John Street, Haslingden.

He said that he had not been notified about the parking restrictions, which were seriously affecting trade.

Lancashire County Council said that it would “review” road markings in John Street after Mr Laviscount’s complaint.

Mr Laviscount said that he took over the club, which is based in a church building, in 1997 and has not seen any yellow lines on the John Street.

He said: “I have been speaking to the people who have lived on this street for 80 years, and no one has ever seen double yellow lines here.

“It’s a massive inconvenice for the people who use the gym because they have to park elsewhere for fear of getting fined.

“There is no need for the lines to be directly outside the building, it does not make any sense.”

Councillor David Stansfield said that he had sympathy with the gym owner.

He said: “The county council are well out of order on this situation.

“I am often in this area and I have seen no posters or notices around here to notify local people about the change.

“The lines are not outside the Co-op Late Shop but are directly outside Eugene’s business.

“There is no doubt about it, this will massively affect his custom and I will be taking this matter further.”

Daniel Herbert, assistant area manager at Lancashire county council said; ”We have spoken with the owner of the gym regarding his concerns and we are reviewing the road markings along John Street.”
