AN ‘INNOCENT’ man was ‘horrifically injured’ after being grabbed by a stranger and pushed through a shop window.

Matthew Horsfall, 23, of Gisburn Road, Sawley, launched the unprovoked attack while drunk and angry after a row with his girlfriend, Blackburn magistrates were told.

Adnan Ahmed Ilyas was walking home with friends in Castle Street, Clitheroe, at 11pm when the incident happened.

Peter Wild, prosecuting, said that for no apparent reason he was approached by Horsfall who grabbed him around the neck and pushed him through the window.

Mr Wild said the victim suffered an “horrific” injury to his hand.

“The glass cut all the tendons in one hand and I would warn your worships that the picture I present of the injury is quite shocking,” said Mr Wild.

Horsfall pleaded guilty to wounding Mr Ilyas and damaging a plate glass window worth £742 belonging to Ian Gill of JAG phones.

He was committed on bail to Preston Crown Court for sentence.

Debbie Morgan, defending, said Horsfall had no previous convictions and was devastated to be involved in such an incident.

“When he was charged he apologised and he has already returned to the shop and paid for the damage to the window,” said Miss Morgan.

“He was drunk and angry after a row with his girlfriend and took his anger out on an innocent passer-by.

“The injury to the aggrieved is horrific and quite upsetting and my client has specifically asked to go on record as apologising to the victim for the pain he has suffered and the ongoing problems he has.”
