PEOPLE across Rossendale Valley will soon receive a little Christmas cheer in the post.

Conservatives will be delivering ‘credit-crunching cards’ with money-off vouchers that can be spent in shops as part of a new financial scheme.

The cards have been created to encourage people to shop locally and to support people during the credit crunch.

Jake Berry, prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate for Rossendale, said he hoped the scheme would benefit people in the run up to Christmas.

He said: “Christmas is a time for joining together and celebrating, but we cannot ignore the fact that the UK is currently facing a period of economic turbulence.

“In order to provide a little bit of financial help, the local Conservatives are delivering thousands of Christmas cards to cash-strapped residents across the Valley.

“Inside are vouchers kindly backed by local businesses which provide some much-needed discounts during the credit crunch.”

The package consists of 12 vouchers that offer discounts at local stores including free delivery at Greenfields Grocers, Haslingden, for orders over £10 and 5% off at Digital Helena photography, Crawshawbooth, for gold and silver wedding anniversaries.

Labour councillor Alyson Barnes said there was much more that could be done to help the people of Rosendale.

She said: “It’s nice to see this particular party getting alongside people to help them in this time. However, there is a bigger way to help local people, and that is by sorting out the towns across the Valley.

“If the businesses in the town’s get supported, people will want to shop there.”

The cards have been produced in partnership with traders and businesses across Rossendale.
