A WELL-known gardening enthusiast has died just a day after his 90th birthday.

Jack Bury, who was the life vice president of the North West Counties Association of Allotments, was also an organiser of local flower shows.

His daughter-in-law Rowena Cook said Mr Bury, who lived in the Feniscliffe area of Blackburn with wife Hetty, would be remembered as a “very generous man”.

She said: “He didn’t garden in a small way. He had several allotments and grew flowers and vegetables in huge quantities. "He was an extremely giving man and would hand over large bunches of chrysanthemums to anyone who wanted them after gardening shows.

“He was very successful at the local shows and kept his allotments going until very recently.”

Mr Bury had been suffering ill health due to kidney failure for around a year before his death on August 21. He was buried last week at Pleasington Cemetery.

He leaves his wife, two children, and three grandchildren.
