RESIDENTS campaigning to prevent a village’s ninth phone mast have asked for help from Gordon Brown and Prince Charles.

The Anti Mast Group Baxenden has over 100 supporters who are fighting the latest plans for a mast in Hollins Lane on the opposite side of the road near to the Alma Inn.

A series of meetings have been held where many residents expressed health fears over the amount of masts.

As a result 60 letters of objection were sent to the firm behind the mast, O2, which has extended the consultation as a result.

Now members have written to both the Prime Minister and the Prince to ask what they can do to stop the mast being built.

O2 wants to build a 12-and-a-half feet high mast.

Helen Wardle, 43, of Manchester Road, Baxenden, said: “We are trying to convince O2 to relocate the mast outside the area or to shelve it altogether.

“We are trying to contact as many people who we can to help us.

“”All the residents are dead against this. We have enough phone masts in Baxenden and we don’t want any more.

“There are reports that phone masts are particularly harmful for children because the mircowaves can effect their growing bodies and their brains.

“The mast is only 12-and-a-half feet so 02 don’t need to apply to the council for planning permission to put one up.”

The group is also planning to write to Hyndburn MP Greg Pope, lobby Baxenden councillors and get Hollins Technology College on board to support their campaign.
