A TEENAGER no longer faces a three-mile walk to school.
Georgina Norton used to receive free bus travel to St Wilfrid’s CE High School in Blackburn, because she lived over three miles away.
But last August she and her mother Caitlin moved to Darwen, which meant she now lived 2.92 miles away and was therefore no longer eligible for the free transport.
Miss Norton appealed to Blackburn with Darwen Council in April on grounds that it was not safe for 14-year-old Georgina to walk to school.
Miss Norton, from Pitville Street, said: “I am a supply teacher and so have not been working over the summer and as a single parent I was really going to struggle to pay for the bus.
“It would not be safe for Georgina to walk the hour to school with a heavy bag in dark mornings.”
Capita, which deals with the appeals on behalf of the council, agreed to give Georgina a free bus pass from this term.
