A UNIQUE interpretation of the War of the Roses was enacted at the World Black Pudding Throwing Championships.

Contestants hurled traditional Lancashire black puddings at stacks of Yorkshire puddings piled on a 20ft platform in a bid to dislodge as many as possible and claim the world title.

Thousands watched entrants from as far afield as Hong Kong, Africa and Sweden compete at the Royal Oak in Bridge Street, Ramsbottom.

Each competitor was given three puddings to hurl at the target.

The junior champion was Leon Taylor, 11, from Bolton, who knocked down four Yorkshire puddings, while senior champ Adam Arthern, from Radcliffe, knocked down five.

The winners received a trophy, which is kept at the pub, a medal and £100.
