A BLACKBURN teenager has been jailed for 21 days because he did not want to live with paedophiles and sex offenders in a bail hostel.

Blackburn magistrates heard it was the second time Nathan Caley had breached supervision.

And Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client had made it clear he would rather go to prison than be forced to live in a bail hostel.

Mr Taylor said the first time Caley had gone to live at Highfield House in Accrington he had been made to share a room with a middle aged man who had been released early from a sentence for committing sexual offences against children.

“This man told my client he was there for “showing too much love” to young children,” said Mr Taylor.

“He found it extremely difficult to share a room with someone convicted of these offences who didn’t seem to be showing any remorse for his actions.”

Jeannette Singleton, prosecuting for the Probation Service, said the latest breach occurred when Caley was sent to Howarth House hostel in Blackburn.

He told staff he needed to collect some belongings from his mother’s address in Darwen.

“He didn’t voice his concerns about his room-mate at Highfield House and he didn’t give the second hostel a chance.”
