POLICE who arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of bigamy found 160 packets of Viagra pills at his home.

Blackburn magistrates heard that the man, who has had four marriages, claimed the libido- boosting tablets were for his own use. DC Dave Souch told the court police had arrested the man and his current wife in relation to bigamy and perjury offences.

The police had received information from Blackburn Register Office about the man’s four marriages.

While they were serching his home for documents in relation to the marriages they discovered the Viagra tablets which, because they were 100mgm tablets, were only available on prescription.

They also seized cash, believed to be about £3,000. The man had been unemployed for four years. The magistrates granted an application by the police for the detention of the cash for three months.

DC Souch said the man, from Bolton, and his wife had been released on police bail so that further inquiries could be made.
