A NELSON man who admitted threatening and assaulting a police officer has been spared a jail term.

Asim Hussain, 25, was abusive when a police officer went to arrest him from a property in Railway Street, Nelson, in May, Burnley magistrates heard.

The court was told that Hussain, of Every Street, tried to pull free when the constable tried to arrest him.

At one point, Hussain shouted: “I will kill you” and threw punches at the policeman, the court heard.

However, despite his behaviour, magistrates took into account that Hussain was already on remand for unrelated alleged offences and handed him a 12-month conditional discharge.
