POVERTY-stricken children in Cambodia could be getting luxury sports kit – thanks to an East Lancashire charity.
‘I Believe’, based at St Alban’s RC Church, Larkhill, and The Good Shepherd RC Church, Earl Street, Blackburn, is appealing for sponsorship to help pay for the packages being sent to children in the developing country.
The kit previously belonged to local football club Blue Star Juniors’ under- 15s team of last season, whose manager Shaun Devine donated it after his mother-in-law told him about the charity.
In October 2006, St Alban’s were made aware of Sister Anne Sklenars, who worked in the hostile environment of Burma, before moving to Cambodia, and her work inspired them to launch the ‘I Believe’ campaign.
‘I Believe’ is run by a six-strong team, which includes Father Jude Harrison, from St Alban’s RC Church.
Anyone interested in supporting the cause is asked to contact St Alban’s RC Church on 01254 59331.
