DANCERS' spirits weren't dampened by Sunday showers as 18 acts took to the Celebrate Blackburn stage for the second day of the weekend festivities.

More than 200 people took part in the Community Dance Day outside the town hall.

Adults and children performed routines including freestyle, ancient kung fu dragon sets, belly dancing, Indian moves, cheerleading and African dancing.

Pupils from St Paul's RC Primary School, Feniscowles, performed several routines after spending five-weeks training with Darwen-based Girassol dance company.

Rebecca Johnson, head of Arts at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “It's a shame the rain kept a larger crowd from forming because this is a really exciting event and shows what our community has to offer.

“The acts that we have got are a real reflection of the different cultures we have in the borough and the energy and enthusiasm we have for dance.”
