POP star Ronan Keating is urging people to visit a Cancer Research UK mobile unt at the Rossendale Relay for Life event this weekend.

The singer, who lost his mum Marie to breast cancer in 1998, wants people to support the event at Marl Pits tomorrow, as it is part of the Marie Keating Foundation.

The mobile unit, which Ronan supports, aims to raise awareness of how people can reduce their risk of cancer and spot signs and symptoms at an early stage as well as providing support to help people make positive changes to their lifestyle.

For free visitors can talk to a specialist nurse in a private consultation room, take a BMI test to find out whether their weight is within a healthy range, and pick up useful health information.

Ronan said: “My family and I were naturally devastated when my mum died and wanted to help other people understand and be aware of the disease.

“This is why we are excited to be working with Cancer Research UK.”

Since the roadshow began touring in 2006, more than 45,000 people have visited the units.

The Cancer Awareness Roadshow, which will be at the Rossendale Relay for Life from 10am to 3pm, will highlight key lifestyle factors which are known to reduce the risk of cancer and increase the chances of detecting the disease.
