Blackburn Rovers are waiting on scan results after Ryan Alebiosu limped off injured against Stoke City.

The right-back is a doubt for Saturday's clash against West Ham United after being taken off in the first half.

Tony Mowbray had hoped it wouldn't be serious, with Alebiosu prone to picking up inconsequential knocks.

But speaking at his pre-match press conference, Mowbray was still in the dark as to whether the defender would be fit for the Hammers' visit to Ewood Park.

"He came into the team meeting limping pretty heavily," said Mowbray of Alebiosu.

"I think he'll probably have a scan. I don't know; let's wait to see it.

"I don't want to speculate; there's every chance he could be out there on Saturday. But if the scan shows something specifically, he probably won't be."

Tom Atcheson is another who will be assessed before the weekend, after missing the midweek game altogether - and the following training session - because of a knock.

The defender has been called up by Northern Ireland for the upcoming international break and should still travel, even if he misses the weekend.

"He'll have to train tomorrow if he is (going to be involved against West Ham)," Mowbray added.

"I don't think he's a major concern for the medical department. You'd call it a minor niggle probably; if he'd played, he could have turned into a major niggle, and we didn't think it was worth the risk of playing.

"We had Hayden Carter, who I thought was excellent on the night.

"He's more than capable and it's a good test for Hayden as well to see if he can play, double games in a week, treble games in a week. I'm sure it will be a test for Hayden as well, so let's see.

"If he (Atcheson) trains then we'll make decisions as to what we're going to do."

Carter's performance against Stoke was a reminder of his importance to the side. When fit, he should be an automatic starter for Rovers.

Touch wood, he has managed to stave off injuries this season. The challenge for him is being able to manage three games in a week.

He started on the bench at Swansea but came on at half-time and is likely to be back up his return to the side in midweek with another appearance at the weekend.

"I think the issue with Hayden is he's got to prove his fitness constantly, really," Mowbray continued.

"Without knowing exactly the numbers, he seems to have missed a lot of football in his career. You've got to be robust and that's why I say this is a little bit of a test for him almost really.

"He'll be taking part in three games in a week if he plays on Saturday. Everybody's slightly different of how robust they are, how delicate certain parts of their body are, maybe through operations in the past or something like that, always a slight concern."
