A man made telephone contact with his ex-partner shortly after his release from prison, when he was banned from doing so.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard the contact put Matthew McKeown in breach of a restraining order, but he claimed the contact had been inadvertent.

McKeown, 32, of Barnes Street, Church, pleaded guilty on a basis to breach of a restraining order.

The case was adjourned for a hearing to establish the facts on November 6, and McKeown was remanded in custody.

Eliza Kukla, prosecuting, said shortly after he was released his ex-partner received three calls from a number linked to the defendant on October 23.

There were a further 12 calls, and during one of them she said McKeown said: "Do you think I deserve this?"

"She ended the call and contacted the police," said Miss Kukla.

"The Crown says this is a persistent breach."

Angela Grabowska, mitigating, said when her client was released from prison, he switched on his phone, and there were a lot of messages.

"He dialled the victim's number by mistake," said Miss Grabowska.

"He doesn't want to have anything to do with her and had no intention of contacting her.

He didn't know he was dialling her number and says it was not intentional."
