Popular tourist attraction Chester Zoo has confirmed it is closed today (Friday, October 23) because of Storm Austen.

A statement published to the zoo’s website has confirmed that staff will be on site to ensure the animals are safe but tickets for the day will be available for us until the end of the year.

A spokesman said: “With Storm Austen set to bring really strong winds, we’ve made the decision to close the zoo on Friday, October 23 to help keep everyone safe.

“Our amazing animal teams will, of course, be on site to look after all the animals throughout the day.

“If you have tickets booked for Friday, October 23, there’s nothing you need to do.

“We’ve automatically extended them until December 31, 2026, so you can visit on a date of your choosing before then.

“If you have a daytime or evening booking for Our Story with David Attenborough, you’ll be able to reschedule from Saturday, October 24.

“Please contact our guest services team on 01244 380280 or email guest.services@chesterzoo.org to rearrange your visit.

“We’re really sorry for any disruption to your plans, but we hope you understand.

“We very much hope to be open again from Saturday morning but please check our website and social media channels for the latest updates.

“Take care out there and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.”
