Manchester Airport’s Terminal 3 is set for a multimillion-pound transformation.
The airport has announced a major upgrade, including a 2,000 square metre expansion of the departure lounge as part of a wider investment programme.
The terminal, now dedicated to Ryanair passengers, will see extra space, improved lighting, new seating, and additional retail units.
Chris Woodroofe, managing director of Manchester Airport, said: "Here at Manchester Airport we are proud to connect the North to the world – serving record-breaking passenger numbers via a route network that is unrivalled outside the capital.
"We’ve completely redeveloped our award-winning Terminal 2 through our £1.5bn investment, and now we’re turning our attention to Terminal 3.
"We’ve already made significant changes, but now we’re ready to accelerate that work and provide more space and facilities for our Ryanair passengers.
"It’s a really exciting project, and I’m really pleased to see it starting to take off.
"We’ll be announcing even more in the coming weeks."
Recent upgrades to Terminal 3 include a new security area, entrance, and the opening of the Sporting Chance bar.
A new Italian restaurant, Terracotta, will also open in the coming weeks.
The airport has invested around £1.5bn in overhauling Terminal 2, which now handles about 75 per cent of all passengers, allowing for the old Terminal 1 to close.
Terminals 1 and 3 are physically connected, and parts of Terminal 1, including its entrance and security hall, have already been integrated into Terminal 3.
The new expansion will repurpose an area of Terminal 3 that has been out of use since late last year.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2028, with further details expected to be released in the coming weeks.
A competitive tender process will be launched to secure new retail partners for the expanded terminal.
