Visitors to two Ribble Valley towns will be able to park for free in the run up to Christmas.

Four car parks - three in Clitheroe and one in Longridge - are having their fees waived on Saturdays from November 28 until December 25.

Shoppers can park in Clitheroe's Market, Railway View and Lowergate car parks, and Barclay Road in Longridge, from 9.30am, with no time limit.

The change, which has also taken place in recent years, aims to attract more people into the town centre to do their Christmas shopping.

Ribble Valley Council's community services committee approved the change on Tuesday.

The free-for-all begins on November 28 to coincide with Clitheroe's Christmas Market.

Other items heard at the meeting included for the replacement of a damaged height barrier at Greenside car park in Ribchester, while quotes are being gathered for relining work at Lowergate, Holden Street and Highmoor car parks in Clitheroe.

Worn and damaged car park signed will also be replaced.

Wiswell and Barrow Councillor Lee Street asked why the free parking was only from 9.30am, to which director of community services Adam Allen replied it was to ensure local businesses don't take all the spots, so shoppers can visit.
