Train services between Blackburn and Clitheroe are disrupted due to trespassers on the railway.

The line is blocked in both directions on Thursday, October 22, causing disruption at stations including Clitheroe, Whalley, Langho, Ramsgreave & Wilpshire, and Blackburn.

Northern said the disruption was expected to continue until 12.45pm.

A spokesperson for Northern said: "There is disruption between Blackburn and Clitheroe due to trespassers on the railway.

"Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed."

Routes between Rochdale and Clitheroe are also affected, though services between Rochdale and Blackburn are not impacted.

Passengers were advised to check their journeys before travelling, and train ticket restrictions in the affected area including advance and peak tickets—were temporarily lifted during the disruption.

A spokesperson for Northern said: "You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

"Please check your whole journey before travelling."

Similar issues were reported on Wednesday after reports of trespassers on the railway.

Passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more were encouraged to retain their tickets and apply for compensation through Northern’s Delay Repay scheme.

For up-to-date travel information, passengers were directed to the National Rail website.

Affected stations included Darwen, Entwistle, Bromley Cross, Hall I' Th' Wood, Bolton, Salford Crescent, Salford Central, Manchester Victoria, Moston, Mills Hill, Castleton, Rochdale, and Farnworth.
