A man, who tried to avoid being punished for a driving offence committed in Lancashire by using someone else's identity,  has been jailed.

Arshpreet Singh was arrested in August 2025 by Lancashire Police  after he fraudulently used a genuine victim of identity theft's details to evade prosecution for a motoring offence that he committed in Lancashire.

He could have undergone an educational course for the offence but instead chose to lie and give incorrect details. The victim was "significantly impacted" by his actions.

Arshpreet Singh, 28, of Market Place, Willenhall, West Midlands, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, October 21, after pleading guilty to perverting the course of justice.

He was given an 18-month prison sentence.

Sergeant Chris Birchall, of Lancashire Police’s Safer Roads Unit, said: "This sentence serves as a deterrent to those who are thinking about lying to police to evade prosecution for minor motoring offences.

"The most likely outcome from admitting to a minor motoring offence is either an educational course or a small fine and points.

"By either lying or using other fraudulent methods, the consequences are much more severe, and it won't be tolerated in Lancashire."
