A swimming pool is due to re-open after a refurbishment.

Ribblesdale Pool in Clitheroe will re-open to the public on Monday, November 9, following a multi-million-pound upgrade aimed at extending the facility’s lifespan by up to 15 years.

An online booking system has also been introduced to make it easier for people to book adult and children’s swimming lessons.

Cllr Stuart Hirst, chair of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s community services committee, said: "I’m sure people can’t wait to see the pool open its doors again.

"Not long now.

"Ahead of the re-opening, we have introduced a new online booking system that will make it easier for people to book and pay for swimming lessons.

"It applies to both adult and children’s lessons and will make life easier for customers.

"It will also free up staff to allow them to deal with visitors more quickly and efficiently."

The refurbishment included the installation of new mechanical and electrical systems, including water filtration and heating equipment, replacement of the main pool lining, and anti-slip surfacing around the poolside and changing rooms.

The reception area has also been improved, and the changing rooms brightened up.

It follows surveys of the building that made it clear that without the work, the pool faced an ever-increasing risk of failure of parts and infrastructure that could eventually force its closure.

The total cost of the project was £4.25 million, funded through the council’s capital programme.

Ribblesdale Pool was built 54 years ago and has already exceeded its expected lifespan of 35 to 40 years.

The new online booking system is available at Ribble Valley Council's website.
