A Blackburn pub is once again spreading Christmas cheer through a simple act of kindness.

The Clifton Arms in Blackburn will give away free fish and chips, supplied by The Old Mill Hill Chippy, this December as part of its annual festive tradition, thanks to the generosity of a former resident now living in Australia.

Theresa Goldson, who emigrated from Blackburn, has donated funds for the meals. She has done this for several years alongside her late husband who died in 2023.

Carole Davis, landlady of the Clifton Arms, said: "A massive thank you to one of our very own Clifton family, one of my close friend all the way over in Australia!

"Once again is showing her incredible support for our Clifton community Christmas chippy tea this December, helping us bring smiles, happiness and a little extra love to our community."

The meals will be distributed across three events during the first week of December.

On Thursday, December 3, they will be served at the Ivy Street Community Centre during the lunchtime community group, and in the evening at the Shad Chef's Man Hub mental health group.

On Friday, December 4, the Clifton Arms will host the final giveaway.

Ms Davis said: "This event is an annual Clifton event in loving memory of Theresa's late husband, Pete.

"Pete supported this wonderful cause every year, and it’s truly heartwarming to see that legacy of kindness continuing.

"What a lady you are! We are absolutely honoured to have you on board and proud to call you a major player in our Clifton family. Your generosity, compassion and heart of gold shine through in everything you do.

"Distance means nothing when kindness comes from the heart, and Australia is certainly feeling a little closer thanks to you!"

"An absolute Inspiration to us all."

The Clifton Arms hopes the event will once again bring a sense of community, warmth, and togetherness to Blackburn as the festive season begins.

Carole said: "[We appreciate] the unbelievable support from the other side of the world over the Christmas period as we share the unbelievable love, generosity and support coming our way this festive season."
