A busy Ribble Valley road is set to be temporarily closed for six hours.

Lancashire County Council has announced a temporary prohibition of traffic on Mellor Lane, Mellor, from a point adjacent to Horns Farm to its junction with Whinney Lane.

The closure will be in effect on Monday, October 19, from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The closure is necessary to allow Openreach, on behalf of British Telecom, to carry out installation works.

While these works are being carried out, a diversion will be in place.

The alternative route for vehicular traffic affected by the closure is via Whitney Lane, Yew Tree Drive, Preston New Road, Mire Ash Brow, Whitecroft Lane, and Nickey Lane.

Vehicular access for residents will be maintained whenever and wherever possible, and pedestrian access to properties will always be maintained, according to the council.

The council also confirmed that emergency services will have access to the area at all times.
