A man has appeared before Blackburn magistrates and admitted 19 shoplifting offences committed at the same store in a three-week period.

Najaf Khan, 45, of Stanley Street, Brierfield, pleaded guilty to 19 charges of theft from Morrisons Daily.

Items stolen included alcohol, cases of Coke Zero, and cakes.

He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Nick Cassidy, defending, said his client had a long-standing problem with alcohol.

"For many years he has been able, with the help of his wife, to deal with that," said Mr Cassidy.

"In recent weeks he has lapsed and has been going to Morrisons on an almost daily basis to steal."
