A warning has been issued after reports of drivers offering lifts to members of the public in Darwen.
People are being urged by police not to accept lifts from anyone they do not know.
If possible, people should note the vehicle’s registration number and report it.
People should also check with a taxi firm if a driver says they know them or displays taxi plates, to confirm they are bona fide.
PC Mark Dixon said: "Although it may seem innocent and at the time a good idea it is unsafe to take a lift from anyone you do not know."
Anyone who is offered a lift is advised to decline and, if you manage to get a registration number, please report it.
