Lancashire County Council (LCC) has issued a statement after concerns on social media about Lancaster's rubbish tip closing early this week.

The council has responded to social media concerns about Lancaster's tip on Salt Ayre Lane, where users reported the site “seems to now randomly close during the day.”

The council confirmed this is linked to issues with capacity adding that improvements have since been made.

A spokesperson for LCC said: "Following some issues with capacity, improvements have been made on site and we are continuing to work closely with our contractors to maintain operations.

"In order to address any ongoing issues over the weekend, additional measures have been put in place to help keep sites open and minimise any disruption.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank residents for their patience and understanding."
