Man accused of gun and machete robberies appears in court

A man has appeared before Blackburn magistrates after being charged with three armed robberies at the same Accrington convenience store in the space of four days.

Matthew Murphy is also charged with possession of an imitation firearm at the time of the first robbery and possession of a machete at the time of the other robberies.

Murphy, 32, of Owen Street, Accrington, is charged with robbing Dixon Premier store, Marlborough Road, of £1,100 and possession of an imitation firearm on October 2, robbing the store of £340 cash and cigarettes worth £160 and possession of a machete on October 5, and robbing the store of £180 cash and cigarettes worth £80 and possession of a machete on October 6.

No pleas were entered, and he was sent in custody to Burnley Crown Court, where he will appear on November 5.
