Residents of a street in an East Lancashire town are £1,000 richer after winning the Postcode Lottery.

The winning ticket today (Thursday, October 8) was in Blackburn, and those with a ticket and a BB1 2ED postcode were awarded the prize in the daily draw.

The winning postcode belongs to players living in Stanhill Road.

Subscriptions to the lottery support a range of charities across the UK, with a minimum of 33 per cent of ticket prices going to charity.

The Postcode Lottery manages lotteries for 20 charities, with each one having one draw a month.

The lottery is hugely popular nationally and supports "a wide range of charities and good causes across Britain and around the world."

Players have now raised more than £1.8 billion for thousands of good causes in Britain and internationally, funding charities including the Alzheimer’s Society, Dogs Trust, Mind, NSPCC and many others, as well as thousands of small local community projects.
