A man has been charged as police investigate alleged robberies in Accrington.

The robberies allegedly took place in Marlborough Road on October 2, 5, and 6.

Police were called to the scene around 1.27pm on October 6.

A man in his 30s was arrested the same afternoon at an address in Owen Street.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Matthew Murphy, 32, of Owen Street, Accrington, has been charged with three offences of robbery.

He also faces two offences of possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and possession of an imitation firearm.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Lancaster Magistrates' Court today (October 8).

A police spokesperson said: "A man has been charged with three offences of [alleged] robbery in Accrington.

"The charges relate to robberies at the same shop on Marlborough Road on October 2, 5, and 6.

"Our officers were called to Marlborough Road around 1.27pm on October 6, to a report of a robbery.

"A man in his 30s was arrested on the same afternoon at an address in Owen Street.

"Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Matthew Murphy, 32, of Owen Street, Accrington, has been charged with three offences of robbery, two offences of possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place, and possession of an imitation firearm.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear at Lancaster Magistrates Court today."
