A man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but will still be tried on a murder charge.

Muhammad Haarith, 23, of Exchange Street, Accrington, denies murdering Matthew Weller on April 23.

Haarith appeared at Preston Crown Court today (October 7) and pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of manslaughter.

However, the prosecution indicated they would continue to seek a trial on the murder charge.

Haarith was remanded in custody ahead of the trial, which is due to start on Monday (October 12) and last a week.

Judge Robert Altham said: "You have pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The trial for the offence of murder will proceed.

"In the meantime, you will remain in custody."
